Our Scripture reading today is James 1:17-20.
Verse 19-20, "Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God."
Do you ever get the idea that God is trying to emphasize something to us?  When I say us, I mean Anchor Baptist Church.  The timing of reading this passage today cannot be a coincidence.  God is re-emphasizing the importance of avoiding wrath and anger.  We referenced James 1:20 yesterday morning when teaching on the 6th commanment.  The wrath of man is in opposition to the righteousness of God.  In fact, wrath or anger are promoting our own agenda.  They are self serving and very damaging to those around us.  Our anger is usually displayed with our words.  There are other indicators that someone is angry, but words definitely bring confirmation.  I came across this observation: "But hath not Nature taught us the same that the apostle here doth, by giving us two ears, and those open; and but one tongue, and that hedged in with teeth and lips?” (Trapp)
Just like any other sin, we need to repent of the anger in our life and seek the help of the Holy Spirit in overcoming.  In addtion, we need to seek forgiveness from those who have been impacted bu our anger.  This all comes from a spirit of humilty.  Anger and Humilty cannot co-exist.  May God help us to kick anger out and keep humility.
Have a blessed Monday!
